COACH Leigh Hodgson wants his players to enjoy the moment - and not let it pass them by - when Doncaster Hockey Club make history this weekend.

Doncaster meet Premier League play-off champions Beeston in their first ever National Cup final at Cannock on Saturday (5.30pm).

The Town Field men caused a big upset in the semi-finals when they played superbly to beat four times cup winners Cannock, also of the Premier League, 3-0 on home soil last month.

Hodgson’s side, who go into Saturday’s showpiece as overwhelming underdogs, will need to raise their game to another level when they face a Beeston outfit ranked as the best club side in England and playing in their fourth final in as many years.

But Doncaster’s coach has not ruled out another upset - although he says his players must focus on enjoying the occasion.

Hodgson said: “The overriding message from me to the players is to go out and enjoy it.

“In many respects, the achievement for us has been to get to the final.

“But we don’t want to under-sell ourselves.

“If we play to our full potential - and execute our game plan - we know we can cause an upset on the day.”
