FOUR of Doncaster’s most promising martial arts students will get their chance on the international stage next week when they compete at the World Kickboxing Council World Championships in Canada.
Hatfield’s Joe Sutherland, nine, and Aidan Hughes, 11, of Armthorpe, will be among the youngest competitors at the event in Montreal.
They will be joined at the prestigious tournament by ACMAC pair David Colley and Hayden Lindley, who both impressed at the recent WTKA/WKA European Championships.
The quartet are scheduled to take to the mats next weekend in search of a world crown.
Sutherland warmed up for the event by winning the forms section of The Kings Battle Ground competition earlier this month, where he was up against 16-year-olds.
He also won bronze in the continuous sparring despite picking up a bloodied nose in a tough medal fight.
The youngster has also been invited to join up with the IKSA England squad who are competing in Holland at the end of October.
Hughes, meanwhile, also got among the medals at WTKA/WKA European Championships, winning bronze in points and continuous.
At the same event, Lindley won his first two fights with ease before losing out in the semi-finals, enough for a bronze medal in points.
While Colley won a bronze in the adults section to add to his collection of prizes.
Colley is tipped to improve on his previous world championship bronze and silver medals in Canada where he fights in the under 18 category.
