DANUM Eagles Under 14s clawed their way to a 68-62 win at fellow high-flyers Newcastle Eagles to stay hard on the heels of North East Premier Conference leaders Sheffield Sharks.
An evenly matched first quarter saw Danum edge their way in front 19-15 but the second period belonged to Newcastle as the hosts levelled the scores at 31-31.
Danum managed to gain a narrow 53-49 lead by the end of the third quarter before Liam Knapp came to the fore in the final period.
Knapp scored all of the Doncaster side’s 15 points, sealing an Eagles win on his way to a match total of 44 points.
Danum’s record now stands at ten wins and one defeat, equalling league leaders Sheffield who regain the top spot through points difference.
n Eagles U18s were also in action at the weekend as they took on unbeaten league leaders Derby Trailblazers.
Second placed Danum were hoping to close the gap on Derby but it was the defiant Trailblazers that came out on top in a convincing 92-60 victory.
Derby’s tough play saw them control the game and they capitalised on every opportunity to run out comfortable winners, improving their record to 14 straight wins compared to Eagles’ 12 wins and three defeats.
