HATFIELD boxing king Jamie McDonnell is set to defend his Commonwealth title against a tough-as-teak Kenyan at the end of the month, writes Peter Catt.
But fans of the bantamweight star, who is also the European champion, will have to travel to Sheffield for the fight which will top the bill at the Hillsborough Leisure Centre on May 28.
McDonnell will face Nick Otieno who has won 21 of his 27 fights, and has never been stopped.
But, if the 25-year-old local star comes through the test, he could be on course for a dream world title tilt next year.
Joint trainers Stefy Bull and Dave Hulley would like McDonnell to have two more European defences before taking on the world.
And unbeaten British champion Stuart Hall could be next in line in a lucrative domestic dust up in September.
Bull said: “Hall has been calling Jamie out and, if he wants the fight, he can have it because there would only be one winner.”
