Doncaster Athletic Club is celebrating after the club’s youngsters made it to the National Finals of the UK Athletics Young Athletes League for the first time in their history.
The team’s landmark appearance in the Auxiliary Final at the newly refurbished Alexander Stadium in Birmingham will take place on Saturday September 3.
The club has been competing in the YAL, which holds events for age groups ranging from under-13 to under-17, for 26 years.
Club spokesman Mark Hudson wrote on the Doncaster AC website: “We would like as many athletes to be available as possible so that we can take a strong team down there – and show how good us Northerners are.”
The club will be in contact with its young athletes shortly to put together its team for the event. All athletes who have competed in the league over the course of the season will be eligible for selection.
Mr Hudson added: “Well done again to everyone who has made this possible – athletes, coaches, officials, helpers and of course all the parents and supporters.”
