ADAM Jones settled into the professional game well to earn a debut win over experienced journeyman Steve Spence.
The Denaby Main fighter was given a tough time by the wily Spence but generally improved over the four round contest to secure a 40-37 win.
Jones’ defences were tested from the off with Spence landing a clean right hand in the early stages.
It was a cagey opening round from Jones as Spence looked to exert the pressure but he began to find the jab well in the later minutes.
A big hook to the jaw welcomed Jones into the second round but he was not fazed by it and grew in confidence.
Though he was caught several times in the remainder of the fight, Jones stuck to his game plan well despite Spence looking to draw him into the brawl.
Though not a blockbuster show, it was the type of performance that will give Jones plenty to build on as he prepares for his second bout, probably in September.
