Jamie McDonnell is set to fight for the interim WBA bantamweight title on April 19, the Free Press understands.

The Hatfield fighter was pulled from a final eliminator for his old IBF crown but promoter Eddie Hearn promised he would be closer to winning a world title once again on a new route that had opened up.

It is understood that route is with the WBA who look set to sanction a bout for their interim world title on Hearn’s Manchester show. Thai fighter Tabtimdaeng Na Rachawat is tipped to be the man to face McDonnell at the Phones4U Arena.

An announcement over the bout is expected this week.
