Hockey: Doncaster Ladies see their league lead cut after shock defeat to Kendal

Doncaster Ladies saw their lead at the top of the table cut to just two points after they suffered a shock defeat to Kendal last weekend.

Despite starting the game brightly, and controlling the game for large periods, Doncaster found themselves 1-0 down at half time.

They regrouped at half-time and a tweak of tactics saw them get back on level terms, as Lauren Firth converted a well-worked short corner.

But Kendal went back in front when Doncaster were caught pressing high up the

pitch, and conceded a breakaway goal.

The game was a pacy affair, with Kendal showing their intent and grit throughout, and

with Doncaster left with no choice but to press high once more late into the game, Kendal were able to score once more, despite excellent ‘keeping from Steph Lonyon.

Chance after chance went begging for the Ladies, who did manage to pull it back to 3-2, but unfortunately it was all too little too late. Doncaster will now look to bounce back in their second home fixture in a row, against Didsbury Ladies.

“Thanks again to the amazing army of fans and spectators for once again roaring the ladies forward,” a Doncaster spokesperson said.

“Let’s get them back on track next time out.”
