PETER Baines edged out Ian Hughes on countback to win Doncaster Golf Club’s Winter Stableford.
Both players had scored 38 points to finish level in excellent conditions on Saturday.
Identical scores in Division One saw Carl Walker and John West tie for first place, with Henry Masterson and Robin Newton level on 37 to finish joint third.
Division Two was similarly close with John Harbon and Paul Jordan sharing first spot with 38 points.
Kevin Barefoot took third place with 37 points and there was a seven-way tie for fourth place on 35 points.
In Division Three there was a four-way tie for first place on 34 points between Clive Whitfield, Jim Waugh, Colin Straw and Dave Wright.
The Monday Stableford followed the pattern for close finishes with Arthur Morris, Mansell Heslip, Scott Freeman and Tony Ayling all tying for first place with 37 points.
Fifth place was shared on 36 points by Dave Wright, John Leedale, Peter Baines, Allan Beaumont, Tony Wesley and Maurice Savage.
The Sunday Niblicks went to Tony Andrew on countback from Wayne Ashmore both carding 32 points.
At Thornhurst Park John Selby won the Sunday Medal with a net 66 after finishing third in the Saturday Stableford behind Ken Hall and Len Faulkner.
The Midweek Stableford was won by Norman Riley with 39 points.
In second place was Derek Roland on 36 points with Ken Palmer (32) following on in third place.
Wheatley ladies held a Stableford competition which was won by Jenny Brennan with 39 points. Second place went to Marilyn Mell with 37 points while Cynthia Porter (31) followed on in third place.
