Golf: Doncaster Town Moor weekly round-up

Doncaster Town Moor’s Christmas Fayre Betterball Stableford saw the pairings of Bud Stojanivic & Jim Pickersgill and Vic Sharpe & Chris Hanley both finish with 44 points, writes John Molloy.

The first named pair took first place on a better back 9 holes. Third place went to Graham Priestley and Warren Derbyshire with 43 points.

Alan Leedale enhanced his year’s activities by achieving a hole in one on the 13 hole.

Doncaster Golf Club’s mens Monday Stableford resulted in a win for junior member Joe Leedale (Alan’s nephew) with 42 points. David Booth (40) took second place while John West, Steve Wollerton and Bob Nicholson shared third place with 39 points.

In the Ladies’ Monday Stableford Vanessa Woodward had a comfortable win with her score of 42 points. Some way behind with 36 points was Jayne Daughtrey while Sue Salmon (34) took third.

Sarah Newton took the Wednesday Stableford with 36 points followed in second place by Rosalie Haywood (32) with Judith Fearns (28) third.

John West was the winner of the Sunday Niblicks Stableford with 37 points. Countback was needed to sort out the minor places with John Haigh edging out Andrew Marshall for second place, both having finished with 35 points.

The men held their Trophy Night on Friday with the trophies being fairly well distributed among the members. The Austin Finnegan Golfer of the Year trophy, awarded for consistent performances in a number of major competitions through the year, went to Stuart Hall who expressed his surprise and gratitude in an impromptu speech which went on too long for many present.
