HARWORTH Hurricanes rider Carl Dixon will chase glory this weekend at the UCI BMX World Championships in Birmingham.
Dixon only took up BMX racing five years ago so to achieve a place at the World Championships is a major achievement.
The 25-year-old will compete in the 17-29 year old category on his Koxx 24in cruiser.
Funding is unavailable which has forced Dixon to raise money to compete himself.
His Balby-based employer Norking Aluminium Ltd has provided £300 in sponsorship.
These championships are the biggest annual event in BMX racing and will feature the world’s best riders who have the chance to wear the coveted rainbow stripes for the following 12 months.
The event also represents the last opportunity for riders from competing nations to secure qualification points for London 2012.
