DONCASTER Dartes are close to qualifying for the National Youth Team Finals after an impressive display at the North East qualifiers in Sunderland.

Dartes’ boys team won gold in the 400m Medley and 400m Freestyle to put Max Litchfield, Richard Lee, Elliot Trofimowicz and Jamie Clarke within touching distance of the finals.

Heidi Smith, Jessica Gillett, Caitlin Dixon, and Shannon Dodson also impressed at the regional meeting and stand a good chance of qualifying.

Dartes’ girls just missed out on a National final berth in 2010, while three quarters of the boys team reached the final the year before.

Their appearance in the final now depends on results from elsewhere around the country.

Dartes sensation Max Litchfield again the stole the show in the individual events in Sunderland by beating four of his club records to land four gold medals and two silvers.

Caitlin Dixon shaved ten seconds off the Dartes’ fastest ever female U15 time for 200m individual medley to win gold (youth) and silver (senior) in the same event.

She also added three more national qualifying times to her collection, giving her five in total.

Jessica Gillatt, 15, also enjoyed a productive weekend by reaching four finals.
