Liam Knapp scored a season high 48 points as Danum Eagles’ under 14s knocked York Eagles off their perch.
Talented guard Knapp, who also starred in last week’s nailbiting win at Newcastle, notched 20 field goals to keep the Doncaster youngsters in contention for the North East Premier Conference title with an 81-44 victory.
Although York struck first, putting the opening four points on the scoreboard, the Eagles never seemed rattled.
And Knapp found his range in the first quarter with 17 of Danum’s 19 points to establish an early double digit lead.
Danum remained in control for the rest of the game and several younger players got a taste of the action and supplemented Knapp’s offensive onslaught.
Aneil Sanghera also bagged 11 points for Danum.
The Eagles remain second in the league table on points difference, level on points with leaders Sheffield Sharks.
n Danum Eagles U18s made amends for last week’s loss to top of the table Derby by running out convincing 77-55 winners at home to Northants Thunder.
The hosts came out with a real sense of purpose and Darius Inniss got the Doncaster side off to a flying start, converting the first of Danum’s six points with some strong drives to the basket.
Luke Blay then got the Danum cheerleaders singing and dancing with his own three-point play as Danum built up a 25-13 lead at the end of the first quarter.
In a tightly contested second quarter Northants closed the gap to within seven points.
But two three-pointers from Ryan Fisher, and an emphatic dunk from Josh Thickett, ensured the Eagles went into half time on a high.
Danum held the visitors to just seven points in the third quarter while notching 22 of their own, and although both teams traded baskets in the final quarter Northants were unable to recover.
Darius Inniss (22), Ryan Fisher (16), Josh Thickett (14) and Tom Jubb (10) topped the Eagles’ points scorers.
