JAMIE McDonnell’s manager Dennis Hobson is determined to stage his man’s world title fight at the Keepmoat if he gets the job done in the eliminator next week.

The Hatfield bantamweight faces Vusi Malinga in an IBF world title final eliminator in Sheffield next Saturday.

And should McDonnell be victorious, Hobson has earmarked the perfect venue for his world title tilt.

Hobson told the Free Press: “I’ve had it in mind for a long time that we’d bring a mega-fight for Jamie to Doncaster and that would be at the Keepmoat.

“When Jamie wins the world title, he’ll be Doncaster’s first world champion and what better place for him to do that than in the town.

“I’ve been in contact with the people at the Keepmoat for several years and they’re definitely receptive to the idea.

“It would be a major event for the town, one that could put Doncaster and Jamie on the map and that’s an exciting prospect.”

Hobson admitted that he had pushed for McDonnell’s clash with Malinga to be a world title bout.

Current IBF king Leo Santa Cruz looks set to relinquish the strap in order to move up a weight class and is expected to fight for the WBC super bantamweight crown in the near future.

But a delay in Santa Cruz’s decision ensured McDonnell’s fight will remain a final eliminator.

Hobson announced a partnership with Amir Khan last week that will see the pair promote shows.

And Hobson insists McDonnell will be one of the promotion’s main stars.

He said: “Jamie is going to be a worthy figurehead for this.

“Hopefully we’ll be getting him on the undercard of one of Amir’s fights in the near future.”
