Danum Eagles head coach Bob Martin hailed his club’s under-18 play-off win over Cheshire Wire 2 as their best performance for three years.
The rampant Eagles ran out 101-54 winners at the weekend to set up a last 16 contest with Cheshire’s first team.
Sam Speight chalked up 29 points and 15 rebounds, while the prolific Liam Knapp netted 35 points.
Martin said: “It was probably the best half of basketball in three seasons.
“The first half was played at a pace that was good for Cheshire but we exploded out of the blocks at the start the third quarter and never looked back.
“It was a total team effort which is an Eagles trait over the years.
“To get into the final 16 teams in the country is fantastic,” he added.
“I am very proud of this team. They have grown into a real strong group both on and off the court.
“It’ll be tough against Cheshire Wire 1 but this is why we play the game: to take on the best. They are the best, but we will be ready.”
Eagles won the Conference North title with a one hundred per cent record. Cheshire Wire 1 are the North Premier champions.
