Doncaster Athletic Club’s Simon Wright showed the 273-strong field strong a clean pair of heels to win Wednesday night’s Sandall Beat 10k Trail Race.
Wright, who led from start to finish, clocked a fast time of 34 minutes 33 seconds as he won the race, which started and finished at Doncaster Rugby Union Club’s Castle Park complex, by more than two minutes.
James Clark (Pudsey Racers) was second in a time of 37.06 with Leeds City’s Trevor Wilks (37.10) finishing third.
Askern’s Pete Burke, fifth overall in a time of 37.59, won the vet-45 class.
Other local athletes in the top 20 included Doncaster’s Ben Elliott (seventh in a time of 39.29), Askern’s Duncan Marlow (eighth in a time of 40.05), Danum’s Greg Lyle (10th in 40.02), Danum’s Mark Powell (11th in 40.44), Doncaster’s Paul Cook (13th in 41.23), Doncaster’s Martin Hookway (18th in 42.14) and Askern’s David Pearce (20th in 42.30).
Doncaster’s Pete Wade, 30th overall in 43.39, won the vet-55 race.
Club-mate Phil Bussey (28th overall in 42.59), just missed out on the vet-65 prize.
Wakefield’s Nicky Steel, 16th overall in 42.11, won the women’s race. Askern’s Susie Warris (50th in 45.33) was the second female to finish with Danum’s Louise Wilkinson (45.47), claiming third place.
Doncaster’s Rose James (89th in 49.09) won the women’s under-40 race.
Doncaster Athletic Club bagged a 1-2-3 in the One Mile Fun run which attracted a field of 45.
George Phillips (14) took the honours in a time of 5 minutes 55 seconds with Joseph Westerman (13) claiming second spot in a time of 6.28 and George’s younger brother Joseph (13), finishing third in 6.37.
