Sunday’s Cusworth 10k road race is on course to attract a record field.

The entry for the Doncaster Athletic Club-organised race, which will incorporate the Yorkshire Veterans’ Championship, is expected to top the 400 mark prior to Friday night’s deadline.

“The record entry stands at 430 and as we are expecting at least another one hundred or so to enter on the day (late entries do not qualify for prizes) we look set to smash that figure,” said club chairman Kev Lincoln.

The race, which has grown in popularity every year since being launched in 2010, has attracted entries from far afield as well a strong local contingent from the Doncaster area.

Kev, who is the race director, is delighted at the success of the event,

“It always takes a bit of time for a race to get established but the fact that it is a good course and it’s the last local road race of the season, all contributes,” he said.

He added: “We’ve also got chip timing, which is an extremely accurate recording system, for the first time and we’ve put up the prize money.

“The first male and female runner will win £100 with second prize being £75 and the third £50.”

The race which starts and finishes at Cusworth Park at 10.30am, is proceeded by a one mile fun run.
