DONCASTER Plant Works’ Dave Allen will challenge for the National Association of Boys’ Clubs Under-91 kg title at the Harlow Stadium later this month.

Allen, who is in his first season, received a walkover in Saturday’s semi-final at Havercroft when his scheduled opponent pulled out. “I’m pleased that he is through to the final of such a prestigious tournament but I would have preferred him to have had to beat somebody given the fact that he has only had seven bouts and he needs to gain more experience,” said Plant Works’ coach Ken Blood.

Schoolboy Reece Bradford collected his sixth win in 10 bouts against Keith Salon (Telford) at Small Heath ABC’s dinner show on Friday night. Aaron Goodwin is still looking for his first win after suffering a sixth successive defeat against the host club’s Leo McKenzie in their Under-42kg clash. Lewis Booth made it 22 wins from his 35 bouts after beating Michael Benson (Telford) on a majority verdict which Blood felt could have been a unanimous decision.
