JAMIE McDonnell successfully defended his European bantamweight title in an epic fight at the Dome on Saturday night.
The 24-year-old Hatfield plasterer won by one point on two of the judges cards, with the other official scoring the bout a draw.
McDonnell's opponent was the world ranked Belgian Stephane Jamoye who built up an early points lead after rocking the Doncaster fighter with a big right hand in the second round.
But the Hatfield man showed tremendous guts and determination to battle back in the middle rounds and deservedly won a gruelling battle.
Top promoter Frank Maloney said later that McDonnell could be fighting for a world title by the end of the year if he comes through two more fights against top opponents in the meantime.
