Wimbledon: Doncaster's Tara should beat unseeded Belgian

Tara Moore from Rossington, who received a wildcard into the Championships after some excellent recent performances, will face unseeded Alison Van Uytvanck of Belgium whose ankle problems over the past year have seen her ranking plunge from the top 50 to 132. If Moore wins then the 23 year old is likely to face the formidable number 13 seed and former two time Grand Slam champion Svetlana Kuznetsova.

“Everything feels like it has clicked which is really nice and quite rare in tennis” says Moore who reached the quarter-finals of the recent warm-up tournament in Nottingham. “You don’t have periods like this that often. You take it when it comes and I’m trying to run with it as much as I can. You always want to play well but it’s extra special at Wimbledon. You think about your relatives in the crowd, all the people watching at home and all the people around the court. You want to leave everything out there and that’s what I’m determined to do.”

In the men’s doubles Sheffield veteran Jonathan Marray, 35, will pair up with Adil Shamasdin of Canada to face the number four seeds Jean-Julien Rojer of Holland and Horia Tecau of Romania in round one. Marray won the men’s doubles event at Wimbledon (2012) when he partnered Frederick Nielsen of Denmark to the title.

Since then his ranking has dropped dramatically to the point where he has been without a regular doubles partner, having to rely on a wildcard for entry into this year’s event.

Marray, who has played more than 50 singles and doubles matches at Wimbledon over the years, is likely to make a decision on his future once he has exited this year’s tournament.
