The visitors capitalised on Toll Bar’s slow start to take an early lead.

Toll Bar hit back with winger Tom Rose finishing off a good move down the left and man-of-the-match Jono Burns setting up a try for Doncaster’s assistant coach Pete Green.

Mirfield levelled at 10-10 following a try from their own half only for hooker Burns to score from the restart after catching the ball and beating two defenders.

Toll Bar started the second half much better and tries from Shaun Carey and Shaun Roberts saw them open up a 28-10 lead.

Despite the game becoming scrappy it didn’t stop Toll Bar increasing their lead with both Burns and Roberts adding second tries.

To their credit, Mirfield kept going and, following a couple of Toll Bar substitutions and a drop in intensity, they crossed for three unanswered tries to make it 40-26.

The Doncaster side had the last word, however, with Carey bagging his second.

“The first half was a real arm wrestle and we had to dig in and show some character,” said coach Ian Tattersall.

“I felt the referee really struggled to control the ruck and that didn’t help us. Certainly had the game been played at a faster pace we would have taken control much sooner.

“When we got on the front foot Mirfield really struggled to cope and I thought Jono (Burns) caused them some real problems.

“It was certainly an improvement on the week before (at Hull Wyke) but at the moment we’re not at our best especially in defence.

“I feel confident that we will always score points but as the season goes on we will need to get better without the ball.

“We’re not going to make any bold predictions about what we can achieve at the moment, we just need to build week on week and come the last six matches we can then start to set goals.”

Bentley, who were without a game at the weekend, lost top spot in Division One.
