DONCASTER KNIGHTS: Griffiths sets five game safety goal
THE Knights must win at least half their remaining games to ensure survival, writes Liam Hoden.
That is the verdict of director of rugby Clive Griffiths ahead of Friday night’s re-arranged crunch clash with London Scottish at Castle Park.
The Knights sit six points adrift at the foot of the Championship with a game in hand.
And while Griffiths says Friday’s game is a must-win, he believes it would amount to little if his side were to not add another four victories to it.
He said: “We’re in a very dire situation but we’re still battling and we’ll keep on battling to the end.
“We’ve got nine games to go and I’d say if we didn’t win 50 per cent of them we’re not going to stay up.
“I don’t care if we win every game by one point as long as we get the result.
“I don’t think that’s beyond us at all because I’ve seen some really positive stuff since I arrived.
“We need that morale-boosting win to kick start the next couple of months and we need to get that against London Scottish.”
The clash with Scottish was due to take place last Friday but was rightly postponed with heavy snow forecast.
Griffiths said: “It was the right decision but I was a little disappointed we didn’t get to play.
“The lads had trained really well all week but they have done this week as well so they’ll be in as good a position.”
Griffiths is hoping a little luck and the good graces of match officials will both shine on his side in the coming games.
But he has also demanded his side cut out the errors in order to make their own luck.
He said: “We’ve had some horrendous decision go against us and we’ve definitely felt the old adage of luck being against you when you’re at the bottom.
“But we need to stop making mistakes that cost us.
“We should have blitzed Melrose in the B&I Cup but we dropped the ball 15 times and you’re never going to win games like that.”
The Knights will welcome back Rhys Buckley from suspension while Will Hafu and Adam Kettle are fully fit.
