Canadian international joins Knights
NEW Doncaster Knights’ boss Clive Griffiths has made his first signing since taking over at the Championship side for a second time, bringing in Canadian utility back Connor Braid.
Braid, who is currently plying his trade at fly-half for Canada, joins Knights having linked up with Griffiths on Canadian national duty.
The two men met previously when when Griffiths coached at Rygbi Gogledd Cymru.
The 22-year-old scored a try this autumn against Samoa. He has also featured for the Canadian 7s side on the IRB sevens circuit and previously played for the James Bay Athletic Association, one of Canada’s premier sides.
Griffiths believes his new addition will bring a lot to Knights’ attacking and defensive capabilities, starting on Friday night against Jersey.
“He is a strong player that can break defences with his powerful running,” said Griffiths. He takes the ball to the line very well and should bring a bit of extra go forward.
“He is also very capable in releasing runners off him and is solid in defence, on top of a fantastic work rate and desire to learn.”
“Connor can play outside-half, centre, wing or full-back and he is also an accomplished kicker, both at goal and out of hand. His versatility is a huge bonus given our injuries.
“I really like his abrasiveness he is very in your face which I try to encourage. Hopefully he can integrate quickly into the Knights set-up.”
