Hockey: Crunch weekend for Doncaster after double defeat

editorial image

LOWLY Doncaster remain just two points clear of bottom side Preston - who they host this weekend - after coming away empty handed from a thrilling ten-goal derby at Sheffield Hallam.

Tim Shelley (2), Jonathan Redfern and player coach Richard Thomas all found the net in a pulsating Conference North clash at Abbeydale on Sunday.

But it was not enough to prevent the hosts claiming a 6-4 victory to keep Doncaster anxiously looking over their shoulders.

Doncaster welcome fellow strugglers Preston to Town Field this Sunday (2pm) in a crucial basement battle.

Doncaster’s ladies lost 2-1 at University of Durham and remain a point above bottom side Cannock, who they face this weekend.
