Great win for athletics club

AN UNDER strength junior squad notched Doncaster Athletic Club's first win in the YAL Northern Premier Division thanks to a spirited performance at Macclesfield.

DAC's young athletes have endured a tough season at the top level but the club's talented prospects shrugged off signs of tiredness to set a number of personal bests and move up to fifth in the table.

Doncaster went into the final relay races just ahead of Warrington AC and comfortably clear of Blackburn and Macclesfield.

It was at that point the DAC's athletes moved up a gear with some impressive individual and team performances which saw them win seven out of the final nine races.

The climax to last month's meeting also saw club records set by both the U13 boys and U15 girls 4x100m teams.

DAC took first place with a points total of 432.5, ahead of Warrington AC (420), Blackburn (397) and Macclesfield (295.5).

Ashton Harrison (U15 boys) impressed by setting personal bests in the pole vault and hammer, while also winning the javelin.

Chloe Bradley (U17 girls) recorded race winning performances in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m and gained a creditable second place as an emergency shot putter.

DAC conclude their YAL season on July 19 with a trip to Merseyside to face Liverpool Harriers.
