If you go down to Balby fields on Wednesdays, you’d be in for a big surprise!
Each week up to 120 girls excitedly carry football boots and bags as they walk down to Balby Academy of Sport’s football fields with their team-mates.
Give it a few minutes and those girls are transformed into footballers right before your very eyes.
All wearing their Doncaster Belles juniors shirts and training gear with pride, the sides train in their age groups under expert guidance with proud parents and relatives watching on from the sidelines.
They may have nine teams but each have the same goals - to have fun and enjoy success on the field.
That’s exactly what the Belles’ junior set-up achieves. Last season saw Belles’ u10s and u12s claim their league and cup doubles.
Several other age groups also finished strongly in their respective Sheffield and Hallamshire leagues and the women’s open age team won the North East Regional Women’s Football League Cup.
Not to mention the juniors have Doncaster Rovers Belles players to look up to - and once had a certain England striker amongst their ranks in the shape of 18-year-old Jess Sigsworth.
Although not currently affiliated with the adult team, they are looking at forging links with the Super League club and have hopes of building a home football ground for the expanding grassroots set-up.
