TRINITY Academy’s Year 10 footballers hit the spot again by winning the Doncaster Schools Cup on penalties.

The league champions held their nerve to win 4-2 in a shoot-out after drawing 2-2 with Balby Carr Sports College to complete a league and cup double.

It’s the second season in a row that the Thorne school have celebrated lifting the knockout trophy.

Trinity started the match brightly and could have been two goals up inside ten minutes through Danny Zhan.

Captain Sam Appleby finally opened the scoring but Trinity were pegged back shortly after when Balby equalised on the counter attack.

Balby again took the lead before Thomas Taylor’s equaliser forced the final into a penalty shoot-out.

Principal Ian Brew said: “The nature of this brilliant win speaks volumes for the team spirit shown by our players.

“Their resolve never wavered despite finding themselves behind after blistering counter-attacks by the opposition.

“A penalty shootout in such a crucial match tested our players’ nerve to the full and I was delighted that Trinity Academy’s performance was indisputable in the end winning out 4-2.”
