TRINITY Academy lifted the South Yorkshire Under 16s Cup for the first time in its short history after a 5-2 win over Sheffield’s Silverdale School.

The Thorne school defeated Balby Carr and Don Valley on the way to the final - where goals from Calum Tiffany, Daniel Linley, Harry Middleton, Josh Cadman and Billy Kirkham secured the trophy.

Academy principal Ian Brew said: “This is the first cup we have won at this level and everyone at Trinity is very proud of the team’s performance.

“It was a real team effort with some outstanding individual performances.

“Now we’re targeting the Doncaster Schools Cup in the hope we can do the double.”
