Scorpions celebrate 40th birthday

SCAWTHORPE Scorpions hold their 40th anniversary celebration at Scawthorpe Social Club tonight (Friday).

Anyone with any connection to the club over the past 40 years, either as a player, manager, coach, official, committee member or any other capacity, is welcome to attend.

The majority of the very first Scorpions team from 1971 have been located and will be present to chat about their memories, and how the club has progressed over the years.

The club is now one of the most successful in the Doncaster & District Junior Football League and can boast its own clubhouse and state of the art facilities.

For more information about the reunion contact John Worgan on 07915 063573.

n Scawthorpe’s Premier Division winning Under 13s side added to their trophy cabinet this summer by being crowned champions of an end-of-season tournament in Holland.

Scorpions played against teams from Belgium, France and the host country in a competition played at FC Den Bosch in Holland.

They played a total of nine games, winning eight and drawing one.

Not only that but they scored 32 times and did not concede a single goal on their way to winning the trophy.

The Scorpions have been invited back next year to defend their title.
