Why it’s so much fun being a Rovers fan
Saturday made you realise why you enjoy football and the Rovers so much.
With 77 minutes gone, Rovers were trailing to a superb 25-yarder from Stevenage’s Dunne, and the record 12 match unbeaten away record looked like being blown away.
Then Ian Hume pops up to fire home the equaliser, and with seconds of stoppage time ticking away, we win a corner, Cotterill swings it in, and there is Captain Marvel, Rob Jones to head home the winner to send the 798 Rovers fans into ecstacy.
From the scenes of jubilation at the final whistle by players and fans alike, you would have thought we had won the league. Even the players joined in the Rob Jones song, amd yes we all believe in him.
It was great for Rob and Brian Flynn to get their caretaker stint off to a winning start, especially against the backdrop of Stevenage’s best performance for months, according to their management team.
I could not hide my excitement commentating on Rovers Player, along with debutant Glenn Wilson (Viva Rovers) who took to commentating like a duck to water.
The wins took us joint top with Tranmere, who have a big game tomorrow against fellow promotion hopefuls Brentford.
Dean has certainley left us with a great team spirit, and it was a nice touch when, after his first game at the helm for Wolves, his post-match TV interview he wished us well and hoped we broke the record.
We will have to wait a bit longer to make it 13 games, as next weeks game against Milton Keynes is off due to them beating Wednesday in the FA Cup. So Bury, hopefully, will be our next victims.
We could see an enforced lay off this weekend, as the wintry weather starts to hit, hopefully not, as the last thing we want is a fixture pile-up.
Rovers’ complaints that we were never live on TV must have worked as we now have the Crawley away game on Monday February 18 and the Swindon home game on Easter Monday with a 12.45 kick-off.
Rovers have announced that the vacant managers posistion will not be filled before the weekend, but will we do what Barnsley have done and appoint within?
The only person guaranteed a interview thus far is eight-year-old Mac Wilson, who will get to meet the players and have an interview and tour of the ground tomorrow (weather permitting).
He has promised us Premiership football within three years! In all seriousness though what a great bit of PR by the club, to give the lad a chance. Heard Barnsley had offered him a job but he turned them down (lol).
Tomorrow’s opponents Orient are not a bad side, and manager Russell Slade will certainly have them fired up for the game. They were unlucky to lose to Hull in the Cup midweek by all account
You know when football is going daft when a linesman is taken off his FA Cup replay game, because he had the audacity to tell Man City players to go and salute their fans who had paid £62 to watch their team. Good on him, players on 150k a week have lost touch with reality.
