BRIAN Flynn has revealed he sends Rovers out with the primary objective of being difficult to beat, writes Liam Hoden
Flynn was largely pleased with the performance in the dour 0-0 draw with MK Dons on Tuesday night as his side stuck to a game plan to bring an end to Rovers’ short losing run.
“It is important that you set yourselves out, even at home, to not lose a game,” Flynn said.
“We had a game plan and it worked really, really well.
“We looked a real difficult team to beat. I like that in a team.
“Even at this stage of the season and where we are in the table, it was important that we made some amends for the previous two games.
“We made amends and that got us the draw.
“The ingredient that caused us problems in the previous two games has disappeared which I’m pleased about.
“I’m sure as this season goes on that will prove to be a valuable point.
“Tuesday night was just about making sure we protected the brilliant foundations that have been laid.”
Flynn was full of praise for the effort of his defenders – particularly Paul Quinn who produced a brilliant last-gasp block after MK Dons broke clear.
He said: “It’s incredibly pleasing to see defenders putting everything on the line for the team.
“What Quinny did with that block was outstanding because they had broke three on one against us and we were in real trouble.
“With effort like that from the entire team we’re going to be very difficult to beat.
“Sometimes when you have a plan it doesn’t always benefit every player.
“Sometimes it will restrict certain players but they have to show their quality in the other side of things.
“That happened for us on Tuesday night.”
Flynn confirmed striker Chris Brown will miss the next one to two months with a knee ligament injury, suffered in last Saturday’s defeat to Walsall.
He said: “Chris will be out for a minimum of four weeks and a maximum of eight weeks.
“It’s not good for him at this stage and it’s definitely not good for us.
“He’s been playing exceptionally well and has played the part of a real good centre forward. It’s a big blow.”
Rovers skipper Rob Jones has been nominated for the League One player of the month for January.
