Doncaster Rovers: More of the same please
BRIAN Flynn is set to stick by a very old footballing adage at Bury tomorrow.
Changing a winning team is something Flynn is not overly keen on, and the Welshman is poised to name the same side at Gigg Lane to the one that eased to victory against Leyton Orient a fortnight ago.
Striker Billy Paynter is back in contention and fit again Martin Woods could return to the bench.
Paynter has not kicked a ball in anger for a month after serving a three-game suspension for his controversial red card in the 2-2 draw with Sheffield United on New Year’s Day.
Woods, meanwhile, played 50 minutes of a practice match against Manchester United on Monday after a three-month injury absence.
Flynn, however, will be reluctant to tinker with a winning formula.
“We’ve got a fantastic variety of players and I could rotate if I wanted to,” said Rovers’ boss.
“But what you’ll find with me is that possession is nine tenths of the law in football.
“If you’re in the team and we’re winning, it’s unlikely I’ll change it.
“I’m not saying I would never change it, but it’s unlikely I’d change a winning team.
“I do look at players in training very closely,” he added.
“The way they train during the week can influence my decision on whether I pick them on a Saturday.
“If a player trains poorly all week, if he’s sloppy or negative in his attitude, which hasn’t happened here but it can happen, then I’ll consider that training performance when I pick the team.”
Iain Hume is unlikely to recover from a calf problem in time to feature.
