IAIN Hume will make the long journey back from Honduras to Doncaster today with his tail between his legs - but also another international goal to his name.

Rovers’ loan striker came on for the second half of Canada’s World Cup qualifier against Honduras on Tuesday and scored with a free-kick.

Sadly for Hume his side lost 8-1 and crashed out of the CONCACAF qualifying - but thankfully for Rovers he came through the match unscathed and is now in contention to face Brentford on Saturday.

Dean Saunders will take into account his long-haul journey before deciding whether Hume goes straight into the starting line-up.

The 28-year-old has missed Rovers’ last three games after finding the net at Leyton Orient. He was ineligible to play against parent club Preston North End before jetting off to join up with Canada last week.

His timely return will be welcomed for a tough-looking trio of League One fixtures against Brentford, Tranmere and Notts County.

Saunders told the Free Press: “We would’ve won the game on Saturday if Iain had played.

“He’s hardly played over the last fortnight so we’ll monitor his condition when he gets back.”
