DONCASTER ROVERS: Griffin set for talks over permanent deal

DEAN Saunders hopes to complete one signing before the loan window slams shut - by tying down Andy Griffin on a short term deal.
Rovers’ boss has prioritised a deal for veteran defender Griffin as a result of ongoing concerns about the fitness of fellow full back Paul Quinn.
Saunders will meet co-owners John Ryan and Terry Bramall today to discuss the club’s impressive rise to fourth in League One - and plot their strategy for the rest of the season.
The Free Press understands that Rovers are unlikely to rush into any last minute loan deals before today’s 5pm deadline, and instead plan towards the January window.
But Saunders IS keen on tying Griffin down on a short term contract after a routine MRI scan on Paul Quinn flagged up an “abnormality” which requires further checks.
“I’m hoping to sort something out with Andy this week,” Saunders told the Free Press
“We’ve got to work out what’s the best deal for him and the club.
“He’s been playing for appearance money up to now and it might suit him to stay on that.
“But the situation with Paul means we have to try and do something.”
On Quinn, Saunders added: “He had a scan on Tuesday and he needs another scan to rule out any problems.
“He might be available on Saturday but we have to play it safe.”
Saunders, meanwhile, described Tuesday night’s 3-1 win at Carlisle - Rovers’ seventh league win on the road - as his side’s best performance of the season.
He also refused to be downbeat about his team’s home form ahead Scunthorpe’s visit to the Keepmoat this Saturday.
Saunders said: “We played with a lot more control and the passing was good.
“The boys are full of confidence and we need to take that into Saturday.
“We’re very organised as a team but we’re just lacking a bit of control at home.
“It’s up to me to find the right balance so we stay solid but add a bit more creativity.
“If we win our game in hand we’d have the ninth best home record in the league,” he added.
“Teams will come to the Keepmoat and make life difficult for us.
“We’ve got to be patient and not think we have to go 3-0 up in the first 30 minutes. Some times you have to win it in the last 15.”
Rob Jones is expected to be fit to face his former club this weekend after suffering mild concussion against Carlisle.
Sammy Clingan (calf) is still sidelined, while Jamie McCombe and Kyle Bennett have resumed light training.
