DONCASTER ROVERS: Dean Saunders wary of Crewe

Set for return: Rovers defender Shelton Martis.

DONCASTER Rovers boss Dean Saunders is expecting a different sort of challenge in tonight’s League One clash against visiting Crewe.

Rovers have had to contend with a number of sides coming to the Keepmoat Stadium this season and packing ten men behind the ball, but Saunders expects the Railwaymen to play more like a Championship side.

They are a good footballing side and they play the sort of football they have played since I was playing,” he said.

“They’ve got a good reputation for bringing through good young players and they sold two of their best players to Aston Villa and Manchester United in the summer, but they’ve still got the likes of Clayton and Leigh-Smith in attack and Murphy in midfield. I signed Pogba when I was at Wrexham and he’s a big powerful striker.

“We’ve got to make sure that we don’t give them the freedom of the pitch and that we play our normal game and not make mistakes and be clinical in front of goal like we have been in recent weeks. Earlier in the season when we weren’t winning our home games we were missing the chances we were creating, now they are going in and all the three strikers have been scoring.”

Saunders expects to have centre-back Shelton Martis, who trained with the squad yesterday, back in action after several weeks on the sidelines. Right-back Paul Quinn is also set to come into contention after missing Saturday’s game against Bradford. Saunders is hoping to have both Kyle Bennett and David Cotterill back in action,

“They’ll both have a late fitness test today and hopefully at least one of them will be fit,” said Saunders.
