DONCASTER Rovers’ 4-0 League One home win over Scunthorpe saw them equal last season’s points haul with more than half the 2012-13 season remaining, and move up to third in the table.

“It takes time to put a side together,” said Rovers boss Dean Saunders.

“We are going along well but whether we’ve got enough players to keep it going (we’ll have to see).

“The same players will be playing against Oldham tomorrow in our game in hand and that will be a bit unfair really because we’ve just played three games in a week.

“The players were in yesterday and as well as discussing tactics and looking at DVDs we tried to get as much food down them as possible to help them recover and hopefully we can take that performance into tomorrow’s game.”

With Andy Griffin being ruled out with a hamstring problem, defender Paul Quinn returned.

Currently playing for match payments in a bid to win himself a contract, Griffin was one of several players discussed when Saunders met several major shareholders late last week.

Speaking for the first time since the meeting, Saunders said: “We talked about the way forward and the long-term future of the club.

“I’ve got Andy Griffin playing for nothing, Sammy Clingan on a short-term contract and Iain Hume, who we are currently talking to Preston about, and hopefully we can tie those three up in the next couple of weeks or so.

“It all depends on whether we can agree terms.”

Reflecting on the game, Saunders said: “We came in 1-0 at half-time and I said to the players that we’ve got to get the next goal, which we did just within a minute.”

Skipper Rob Jones scored his second in two games: “He’s like my right-hand man on the field,” said Saunders.
