Doncaster Rovers: Brian Flynn calm over defeat
BRIAN Flynn dismissed Rovers’ surprise defeat at struggling Bury as a ‘blip’.
Goals from Andy Bishop and Nicky Ajose handed a 2-0 victory to the Shakers as poor finishing and panicky play in attack cost Rovers dear.
Flynn himself refused to panic and backed his side to bounce back.
“I don’t like the taste of defeat – that’s for certain,” he said.
“But I know it won’t happen many times between now and the end of the season.
“I know for a start with our second half that there’ll be a positive reaction to this.
“I’ve had a good start and now I’ve tasted the other side of it.
“I’m know they will bounce back from this.
“Bury are a team fighting for their lives and you expect them to perform well against us.
“They made it hard for us to play and they were determined to beat us.
“We’re a scalp, being at the top of the league, and Bury made that very clear against us today.”
Flynn insists his strikers must keep their cool to ensure a positive reaction to the defeat.
Rovers had 16 shots on goal, largely in the second half but could only find the target with four and just one of which truly tested Bury keeper Trevor Carson.
He also admitted he was a little surprised at the manner of the two goals conceded, both of which came from high balls into the box.
Bishop glanced a header home with the Rovers defence caught flatfooted from a quickly taken throw while Ajose bundled home after a corner to the back post caused confusion.
“We’re going to have to finish better between now and the end of the season in those circumstances,” he said.
“We’re going to have to be more clinical, keep our cool and our timing has got to be better.
“And we will be.
“The boys have been clinical throughout the season which tells me that it was just a blip. Flynn added: “Conceding in the way we did was disappointing.
“To concede a goal as softly through a set play was a little unexpected given how we’ve played this season.”
