A BLANK weekend was all we needed.
But it looks like we are getting our act together and by all accounts the ground staff worked themselves into the ground trying to get last Saturday’s home game against Reading on.
The Rovers officials felt that the pitch was playable, and with the sun on the pitch we would have been okay as the forecasted snow did not arrive until around 5pm.
But the referee had the final say and he deemed the pitch unplayable in places due to several days of severe overnight frost.
The good thing about not having a fixture, was that Coventry, Millwall and Bristol City all lost so we have a game in hand over them - though it’s imperative that we win the game.
Crystal Palace will not be easy tomorrow, and the beaten Carling Cup semi-finalists will want to show their fans what they are made of, following a creditable draw at Middlesbrough last weekend.
The Palace ground is the worst ground in the country to get to.
I just hope the journey is not as eventful as last season when one of the Supporters’ Club coaches hit a bollard outside a cemetery.
Those who travelled down on the train were delayed by snow, and a fatality on the line.
Those intending to travel by train tomorrow from London Bridge are advised the train has reportedly been replaced by a bus to Norwood. Alternatively you can go from Victoria to Thornton Heath.
I don’t think we will have that much support on Saturday as we only have three coaches going to the game, but the Southern contingent will hopefully bolster the numbers.
Chairman John Ryan, meanwhile, has re-launched the ‘100 Club’ to raise funds for the club.
You can also be a director for the day from £5,000. Any money raised will certainly help the club at what is a tough period financially.
Tuesday night sees a mouth-watering home game against Blackpool.
We were unlucky not to come away without at least a point from Bloomfield Road earlier in the season when going down 2-1 after Billy Sharp had put us ahead, so we owe them big time.
We will have to play for the full 90 minutes, however, as they have a habit of scoring late goals.
I believe eight out of their last 10 goals have come in the final 10 minutes or so.
They had a good result (3-0) at Hillsborough on Tuesday night in their FA Cup replay.
