Rossington Main extended their unbeaten start to 2015 to three games with a 3-1 home victory over Winterton Rangers.

In doing so they completed a first league double of the season, following a 6-1 success in the reverse fixture back in August.

Rangers will be glad to see the back of Main’s assistant manager Lee Holmes after he followed up his hat trick in the first encounter by scoring a second half treble following a goalless first period.

Holmes opened the scoring on 57 minutes after a scramble in the area before doubling the lead five minutes later with another close range effort.

Holmes then bagged his 21st goal of the campaign on 86 minutes, running on to score with a composed finish following a quickly taken free-kick that caught the Rangers defence napping.

The visitors netted a consolation effort two minutes later through Declan Marshall with a fine strike from distance.

It came too late to affect the outcome though, as Rossington climbed to 14th in Division One.

Rossington face a tough trip to in-form promotion hopefuls Shirebrook Town this weekend before turning their thoughts to cup glory next week.

Main travel to Langwith Road to face a Shirebrook side that are seventh in the table and who still have high hopes of securing a top two spot.

The hosts go into the game having won four and drawn one of their last six outings.

They were also fortunate to salvage a point from a 1-1 draw at Oxford Street last August, equalising in time added on after Holmes’ second half strike had looked like earning Rossington the spoils.

Next Tuesday Steve Brennan’s side will look to book their place in the last four of the Sheffield Senior Cup when they entertain Premier Division strugglers Nostell MW.

Nostell have lost their last six outings on the spin and have won just once in 15 away games in all competitions.
