Grassroots: The Vault spring a surprise in Senior Cup

Lowly Championship side The Vault caused an upset in the Sheffield & Hallamshire FA County Senior Cup second round ties involving Alliance League clubs, beating third-placed Premier Division side Bentley Top Club 5-2, writes Steve Hossack.

Another high-flying Premier Division side Eden Grove also lost interest in the competition after losing to Championship opposition – Bullcroft S&P posting a 4-2 win.

Joe Fisher (2), John Hardy and Shaun Mundy struck for Bullcroft.

But bottom club Stainforth lived to fight another day after beating Championship rivals Lonsdale 5-1.

Defending champions Sprotbrough claimed a 3-1 win at Rhino’s in an all-Premier Division affair.

Leger Lions also won on the road (4-2) in another top-flight clash at Toll Bar. Championship leaders Armthorpe Albion beat Tank 5-1.

Rosehill Press beat fellow Championship strugglers Newton Arms 3-2.

Balby Academy of Sport Inter booked their place in the third round of the Junior Cup with a 5-3 win over Finningley Athletic. White Hart (Askern) won 3-0 at Balby CSV.

Bessacarr handed out a 6-0 beating to Jakes Bar Rangers. Second Division FC Wadworth beat Division One strugglers Carcroft Village 2-1.

Eve’s Trust Dynamo’s beat Arksey Victoria 5-1. Adam & Steve also made progress, beating Fairway Athletic 5-2.

Third Division high-flyers Balby Athletic bagged an 8-0 win over Second Division FC Cumberland.

Legion Park Rangers won 6-0 in their all-Division Two clash against lowly Highwayman. Palfrey’s Lodge lost 7-1 to Upton Wrangbrook.
