Sue Smith admits the Belles have made life difficult for themselves after dropping points at Durham as league leaders Sunderland crept three points clear at the top.

With one promotion spot to aim for, second-placed Doncaster have seen their FAWSL2 rivals Sunderland edge ever closer following their 2-0 victory over Oxford this weekend as the Belles were held to a goalless draw at Durham.

Midfielder Smith has urged the side to put things right come Saturday when they host London Bees at the Keepmoat Stadium (6.30pm).

On the Durham draw she said: “Absolutely gutted.

“We know that teams have seen us play and we’ve played these before so they know that we are an attacking team, we like to go forward and create chances. They just sat back and made life difficult for us and frustrated us.

“It wasn’t the Doncaster Belles of the first half of the season.

“You could see we were trying to hit 40-yard passes and trying to shoot when we shouldn’t.

“Our decision making wasn’t there and that’s not been us. We’ve been very clinical and good at creating chances, but it just wasn’t there at all and we’re not happy.

“We need to go back to the drawing board now and try and reflect on what’s just happened and take it into next week because that wasn’t good enough, for an individual performance or a team performance.

“We need two quality training sessions and to work on everything. We need to watch that game too and analyse it to see where I’ve gone wrong individually and where we’ve gone collectively wrong as a team.

“We’ve dropped too many points now, we’re making it difficult for ourselves.

“We could have got a result against Sunderland last weekend but didn’t, we dropped points against Millwall and now Durham.

“We’ve got a great team spirit and a great bunch of girls and it’s just a case of we’ve got to start clicking again.

“We have to up our game 100 per cent against London Bees.”
