Winless Doncaster Rovers Belles will tonight welcome current FA Women’s Cup winners and FAWSL reigning champions Arsenal - and without their main striker Jess Sigsworth.
Rock bottom Belles have not had a lot to shout about this season after being ‘relegated’ by the FA after just one game when their application for next season’s expanded FAWSL failed to meet criteria.
On the pitch, John Buckley’s Belles are without a win in six league games and are gearing up to meet Arsenal who are in devastating form and are unbeaten in nine.
For tonight’s tie, Belles will be missing industrious forward Sigsworth who is on international duty.
The teenager, from Auckley, is currently starring for England’s under-19s in the European Championships in Wales.
Sigsworth started in the Young Lions’ opening 0-0 draw with France on Monday night.
However, the 18-year-old’s domestic omission could pave the way for ex-Ottawa Fury and Liverpool Ladies striker Katie Brusell to make an instant name for herself following her recent transfer to Doncaster.
Brusell made a late substitute appearance in Belles’ weekend’s 1-0 defeat to Birmingham City Ladies.
Tonight’s game kicks off at 7.45pm at the Keepmoat Stadium.
There will also be an ‘interactive fanzone’ from 4.30pm with sports-related games and a number of trophies, including Doncaster Rovers’ League One title, on display for people to have photographs with.
