Lady Luck was not on the under-16s’ side as Huddersfield Town snatched a point late on, writes Marie Gibb.
The Belles, who currently sit three points adrift of leaders Handsworth their Sheffield & Hallamshire Girls County League, thought they had clinched a vital three points when a Jade Smedley cross deceived Huddersfield’s defence and slipped underneath the ‘keeper for a 75th minute lead.
However, third-placed Town hit back with minutes to spare to nick a point.
The Belles were expecting a tough match as Huddersfield tested Doncaster shot-stopper Georgia Wattam on occasions with ‘Belle of the Ball’ Abby Freeman putting in some last-ditch tackles for her side.
Despite their battling efforts, the Belles came off the pitch disappointed not to have secured a vital win to keep up the pressure as the title race closes in.
The Belles travel to Aston Swallownest this weekend with leaders Handsworth facing a tricky tie away to Huddersfield.
