An injury time free-kick from Lauren Cresswell secured a 2-2 draw for Doncaster Belles reserves in their clash with Manchester City LFC.

The development squad hosted the reserves of City, whose first team will effectively replace Belles in next year’s WSL1, in an entertaining FA WSL Development League Cup clash on Sunday.

But the Belles’ youth side had it all to do at Balby Academy of Sport after they were trailing 2-0 at half time thanks to goals from City duo Alice Hey and Caroline Ward.

However, a spirited Belles side rallied after the interval and reduced the deficit through a 25-yard effort from Molly Johnson.

And then as the game ticked into injury time, Cresswell fired in a sublime free-kick to level the scores for the Belles outfit.

The sides meet again, this time in the league, on Sunday at Wythenshawe Town FC’s ground (2pm).
