Manager John Buckley is confident Doncaster Rovers Belles will prove their critics wrong this season - starting with an FA Cup victory over Bristol Academy this weekend.

Belles launch their new season with a fifth round tie against Bristol at the Keepmoat Stadium - the venue for this year’s final - on Sunday (2pm).

Doncaster struggled for goals last term and finished second bottom of the FA Women’s Super League but Buckley is confident his young side will surprise a few teams this time around.

“Bristol are a good side and will be a tough test but the girls can’t wait to prove to people that they can do well in all competitions,” he said.

“I think people have written us off already but that will be a good weapon for us. I certainly think we’ll give the bigger teams a surprise.”

Midfielder Katie Holtham and Irish forward Aine O’Gorman have left the club over the winter.

Liverpool forward Cheryl Foster and Lincoln goalkeeper Nicola Hobbs are new arrivals.
