Athletic forced away from home

SWINTON Station Athletic had no problem with a late switch to unfamiliar surroundings as they beat Doncaster Deaf 3-2 in the Doncaster Senior League.

Athletic had been due to play at home but Saturday’s atrocious weather left their pitch waterlogged.

Rather than postpone the clash, Swinton opted to play the tie in Doncaster and were rewarded with a James Newton brace and a Luke Nash strike in the victory.

* FRICKLEY Athletic’s latest acquisition Ryan Hindle, missed the opportunity to make his debut against former club Reford United when the Evo-Stik Premier Division was postponed due to a waterlogged picth.

Winger Hindley, 28, had three spells at United, having previously been with Rotherham United, Nottingham Forest and Stocksbridge PS, and has been signed by Blues manager Peter Rinkcavage to improve accuracy from free-kicks and crosses.

Rinkcavage’s first signing at the club Kevin Sanasy has been released and is expected to join Premier Division rivals Buxton following a disappointing spell which saw him score just five time in 17 matches.

Midfielder Matt Bloor has rejoined Goole AFC while winger Andy Lee has been allowed to go out on loan.

Andy Catton and Leon Henry are unlikely to feature this season following injuries.

The Blues return to action on Saturday when they entertain Ossett Town, looking for their first league double of the season.

* PARKGATE’S clash with Liversedge at Green Lane was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

The Steelmen host Hall Road Rangers on Saturday.
