Denaby Main moved into the top six in County Senior League Division One after a hard fought 1-0 win at Dronfield.
Captain Josh Critchley scored the only goal of the game in the second period after a sluggish first period for the visitors.
As has often been the case in games this season - despite being unbeaten - Main didn’t really get going in attack during the first period, but kept their hosts at bay throughout with some good defending.
Citchley did come close before the interval as his effort struck the crossbar.
The visitors looked like a different side in the second half as they came out playing some good passing football.
Stand in goalkeeper Mick Russon was rarely troubled for Denaby, as their hosts looked to attack with a long ball over the top.
The breakthrough came when Michael Wren was able to pick a pass to Critchley, who took advantage of a lucky bounce to sweep the ball into the bottom corner, out of the goalkeeper’s reach.
From that point on Main didn’t look like losing, as they stuck to a disciplined defensive shape and kept their hosts at arms length.
The result moved them within four points of league leaders Denaby United, however, Main have four games in hand.
This weekend sees Denaby take on ninth placed Davy FC.
