THE Belles made a disastrous start as they bowed out of the Women’s FA Cup at the quarter-final stage.
Liverpool snatched the lead after only 40 seconds when left winger Kelly Jones swept home a cross from right back Nicky Harding and went on to dominate the first half.
Belles did have chances to get back in the match before the break but Kylla Sjoman fired straight at the keeper and Katie Holtham slammed a shot over the top from close range.
The home side were quick out of the blocks again at the start of the second half and Belles were caught cold as Cheryl Foster doubled the lead inside the first minute with a curling 20-yard free kick that went in off the woodwork.
Further opportunities for Belles to fight back were squandered when Becky Hall could only manage a tame shot, and then Vicky Exley sent a header wide of the mark.
Liverpool sealed victory in the last minute through substitute Lynda Shepherd to close the door on Belles hopes of a place in Europe had they reached the final.
