Defending champions defeat leaders

REIGNING Doncaster Senior League Premier Division champions Sutton Rovers recorded a 3-2 home victory over leaders Bramley Sunnyside.

Tom Doherty, Ryan Walker and Chris Hancock shared out the Sutton goals with Kyle Egan and Ryan McKenna replying for Rovers.

Andy Lowe claimed a hat-trick as Hemsworth Town beat derby rivals Kinsley Boys by the odd goal in seven. Michael Humberstone completed Town’s tally with Joe Howey, Sean Hammonds and Mark Lafferty, replying for the home side.

Hemsworth MW retained top spot in Division One on goal difference after a 6-1 success at Scawthorpe Scorpions. Neil Pickersgill bagged a brace for the winners with Nigel Beardow, Lee Wagstaffe, Lee Carrington and Luke Chadwick also chipping in. Gareth Mountain scored the Scawthorpe consolation.

Level on points with a game in hand, Denaby Main romped to an 8-0 win Fover C Central. Joe Dungworth and Tom O’Neill both registered hat-tricks with Martin O’Neill and Scott Aspinall also getting on the score-sheet.

Steve Winder was also on target three times for Ackworth United in their 6-0 win over Westwoodside Rangers, which moved them into fourth spot in the table.

Sam Wilks, Stuart Gordon and Phil Land also hit the target for Rangers.

Two goals each from Robert Hollinger and Peter Walmsley put Bawtry Town Reserves on their way to a 5-1 success over Newton Arms. Anthony Nawn completed the rout. John Macleod was the Newton marksman.

An own goal helped Dunscroft United claim a 3-1 win at Harworth Colliery. Nathan Atkinson and Carl Grant shared out the other two goals.

There were mixed fortunes for Doncaster sides in the Sheffield and Hallamshire FA Association Challenge Cup third round ties.

Rossington Main claimed a 3-2 win at Davys thanks to goals from Neil Fraser, Shaun Spencer and Mark Chipomaunga.

Neil Spruce struck twice for Denaby United, only for them to go down 4-2 to Wombwell MW in extra-time.

Swinton Athletic beat Rovers Foundation 2-1 in their Sheffield Junior Cup quarter-final.

Aiden Cooper scored both Swinton goals with James Bytheway reducing the arrears.
