Hundreds of footballers battled it out to become Doncaster’s schoolboys champions in a year versus year competition.

Schools and academies descended on to Balby Carr to play in the tournament with the overall prize being the chance to represent South Yorkshire.

Lewis McMahon, head football coach at Balby Carr who organised the event with Rick McGowan, said: “As a whole the standard of football that was played was very high and having seen some very talented young players hopefully we might get to see some of them in a Doncaster Rovers shirt one day.

“I know a lot of the players are at different academies and Centre of Excellences which is also promising and highlights Doncaster as being a talented area for football.”

The regional matches are to be arranged.
